7 Ways to Fix The Dreaded Cracked Smartphone Screen.

I used to pride myself on how well I took care of my Apple devices. Meaning … I’ve never really “hard-dropped” my iPhone … or stomped it like a gorilla, or sat on it, crushing it into a chair. And until recently, I’ve never accidently dropped the thing in the toilet while in the men’s room at Starbucks or anything weird like that.
Anyway, while boarding a recent Southwest Airlines flight out of Chicago Midway International Airport back to Ronald Reagan Washington International Airport, I noticed this young teenage kid sitting next me, quickly scrolling through his iPhone before it was time for the flight attendants to force passengers to turn off their mobile devices before takeoff.
More noticeably, I saw that his iPhone screen was cracked and smashed to smithereens. “What happened to your phone dude?” I asked. The kid explained that he dropped it on his Mom’s hardwood kitchen floor while cooking or something like that. Either way, it looked horrible. Moreover, it looked like a complete pain in the butt to swipe through and use the phone altogether.
Like playing with small razor blades.
It was at this point that I silently and boastfully patted myself on the back for taking great care of my various Apple devices throughout the years. How I’d been able to avoid taking my iPhones or Samsung devices back to my servicing network provider for costly repairs or replacements. Poor guy … how unfortunate for him.
Yeah … so apparently that was my first mistake.
I now believe there is a thing called “iPhone Karma” … meaning, if you take joy in, or bring an undue amount of attention to other’s smartphone misfortunes, then iPhone Karma will invariably come back to smack you in the nose.
iPhone Karma: the mystical and consequential blowback resulting from taking joy in another’s iPhone misfortunes, e.g., theft, loss, or damage. Also see, “God Smack”.
And as you are probably anticipating, iPhone Karma came to get me four days later as I stopped by my local WaWa to get gas and grab some much needed (and world famous) WaWa coffee.
As I climbed out of my car, I grabbed my iPhone and clumsily attempted to cram the phone into my back pocket. Instead, the phone flipped out of my hands and smashed (facedown) on the parking lot curb. I quickly picked up the iPhone and you guessed it — I had a cracked screen. It looked just like the “poor” young kid’s smartphone on the Southwest Airlines flight.
Good Morning karma. Well played ma’am … well played. Yep, I needed that WaWa coffee even more now. And maybe a donut.

Like most smartphone customers who crack their screens or manage to mangle, break, or misuse their devices in any number of ways, I needed to know where I could take my precious phone to get fixed — and most importantly, what would be the financial damage?
I immediately began my search for iPhone screen repair services — ironically, on my smashed iPhone. Just like the poor kid on the plane.
7 Way To Fix The Dreaded Cracked Smartphone Screen.
1. Go To The Apple Store.
So I quickly found out that there are a number of repair options if you crack your smartphone screen. For iPhone users specifically, scheduling an appointment at your local Apple Store will probably be your initial choice, and depending on what warranty plan you entered into when you purchased the device, you may already have AppleCare+ which covers two incidents of accidental damage (including service fee).
Just go to https://www.apple.com/retail/ and you’ll find a user-friendly store locator screen that will allow you to simply type in your zip code and it will direct you to the closest Apple Store in your area. In many cases, you may be able to get a same day appointment and be done with it.
Remember, if your iPhone is out-of-warranty, you should probably prepare to pay significantly more at your nearest Apple Store. (See below details).

2. The Samsung Premier Care Program.
For Samsung Warriors, the Samsung Premier Care Program states that they offer in-person support, premier protection, and extended warrantees for its customers. Just visit https://www.samsung.com/us/support/premium-care/?cid=sem-mktg-pfs-mob-010117-22015 for further details.

3. Let’s Fix That Smart Phone At Best Buy.
It’s really no surprise that Best Buy offers fast smartphone repair services at select stores across the country. I mean, this IS the franchise that mobilizes the famous “Geek Squad” to tackle your computer needs right? However, Best Buy may not be one of the first locations that comes to customer’s minds when they think of certified smartphone repair experts — but that’s where you’d be wrong.
We discovered that Best Buy does offer same-day repair for iPhone 6s and newer at select Best Buy stores. However, if you select a store that offers same-day iPhone repairs, you do have to make a reservation. Essentially, first come, first served.
Also remember that your phone must be dropped off at your select Best Buy store before 6 p.m. local time. Moreover, some repairs may require a longer mail-in exchange process.
Finally, screen repairs at Best Buy may take 5–7 business days at stores that do not offer same-day repair. Reservation is required.
4. Did You Know Staples Can Fix Cracked Smart Phone Screens Too?
When you accidentally smash your smartphone, don’t forget about visiting your “always trusty” Staples store around the corner. Yes, Staples is not just the place you visit to make paper copies, send off packages, or grab hard to find printer toner cartridges. Amongst other things, Staples also offers in-house, same day smartphone repair service and a 1-year limited warranty.
5. Check Out Cellairis For Smart Phone Repairs Also.
Alas, here’s yet another smartphone repair option for you. Now I personally haven’t used them to date, but a few of my trusted friends who own both iPhones or Samsung devices, rave about a company called Cellairis. Cellairis claims to be able to repair your phone in 45 minutes or less.
The company also states that they have the most competitive rates around with a superior warrantee to boot.
6. Find An Independent Smartphone Repair Technician.
You can also look for any number of independent smartphone repair technicians in your local area as well.
This is actually the route that I took following my iPhone dilemma. I found a cellphone repair technician who operated a mobile servicing company and met him at a local coffee establishment to complete the work.
The repair work took roughly an hour and I was on my way. I had a brand new iPhone screen and no longer had to hide my phone from family, friends, and strangers out of sheer embarrassment.
The repair technician was professional, thorough, and ultimately incredible to work with. Oh by the way, the cost of repair was generally on par with a visit to my Apple Store.

7. The DIY Smart Phone Screen Repair Option.
Yes, it will be easier to just hand your smashed smart phone off to an expert to repair, but obviously this will not be accomplished without painful costs associated with it (depending on your established device repair plan).
But if you’re not capable of or willing to shell out $200 to fix your phone, there are also effective self-repair options available to repair your cracked phone.
That said, we highly recommend the websites, Missionrepair.com, iFixit.com, and iCracked, com if you choose to save some cash and fix your smartphone screen yourself. These two sites are incredibly user-friendly, and will invariably get you set on the right technical trajectory by offering various repair kits for your major devises.
We also recommend using You Tube as a reliable tutorial DIY resource when venturing into the world of smart phone repair.
You already know that You Tube serves as a valuable source of knowledge for DIY projects. Chances are, of you broke it — then there is someone else on the planet who’s done the same thing and has posted a video on how to fix it. You Tube DIY videos can teach you how to unclog a sink, how to build a deck onto your house, and yes, how to fix your own cracked smartphone screen.
In summary, because of their small size, convenience, and portability of iPhones, cracked screens are more than inevitable. Therefore, when the inevitable indeed happens, there are a few things that you should keep in mind moving forward:
#1 Customer Satisfaction Reviews Often Tell the Story … Read Them … Let Them Guide You.
Because we do just about everything with our mobile phones these days, you WILL feel the urge to rush out and find the first smartphone repair technician that your fingers stumble across online. Resist that urge.
When researching smartphone technicians, I encourage you to read the reviews left by previous customers. Customers will tell you if the centers or technicians know what the heck they’re doing. You don’t want to put the health and repair of your phone in the hands of an inexperienced young tech who could care less about your device and just wants to clock out and play endless hours of Forthnite in his mom’s basement.
You want a professional who understands smartphones and how a botched screen repair can lead to an avalanche of problems.
#2 Test, Test, and More Tests.
Because of the overall versatility and pervasiveness of smartphones, we often forget that these devices are still complex pieces of technology that requires the technician to open up the phone and carefully refit the components.
Because of this, always ensure that the technician thoroughly tests your device to ensure that all features are 100% functional. For example, my technician had a checklist of major smartphone features and performed the associated function checks.
In fact, after he was finished, he requested that I perform a similar function check with the phone to ensure that it operated properly.
3# Get The Warranty.
Obviously, electing to repair your mobile device vs. purchasing a new one, will be an exponentially cheaper option (generally), but there will be some elevated costs associated with it — depending on the manufacturing year and model of the smartphone. That said, although many repair shops will offer you a 90-day warranty … I’d try to find the repair shops that offer the 12 month warranty minimum.
Because the time and money you spend rejuvenating your precious mobile device is worth that. Right? Now stop crying, stop cutting your fingers on your smartphone screen, and let’s get busy finding a competent repair technician today.
